VICTORVILLE — An 18-year-old Phelan man was sentenced this week to 180 days in jail and barred from going near the KFC restaurant on Sheep Creek Road for three years following his conviction on four misdemeanor counts, including battery, vandalism and burglary.
Ludwin Cruz, who had been originally charged with felony burglary, accepted the deal put forth by prosecutors Wednesday after his arrest Feb. 12, court records show.
Authorities said his arrest came after dispatchers received r
eports of vandalism in the 6900 block of Sheep Creek Road followed about 25 minutes later by a report of a battery near a KFC. The reporting party was able to give dispatchers a suspect description that was passed on to deputies on scene.
Authorities spoke to victims and eventually found a person walking on Sheep Creek Road that matched the provided suspect description, they said. The suspect, later identified as Cruz, fled on foot before being apprehended near Lindero Road.
Cruz also pleaded guilty to resisting a peace officer, court records show. He is eligible for a conduct credit that could cut his jail sentence in half, and he was also ordered to serve three years probation.
