the Highland Police Department conducted a Tobacco Sales Compliance operation in Highland. Underage police explorers were sent into 31 businesses throughout Highland and attempted to purchase tobacco related items, which are illegal to sell to those under the age of 18. Highland Police report that all 31 businesses asked for ID and would not sell the tobacco related items to the minors.
The decoys then stood on front of three local businesses and began asking customers if they would purchase tobacco for them, utilizing money provided by the decoy. The decoys contacted 36 subjects in total, and 6 of those subjects purchased cigarettes for the decoy. These people were then contacted by deputies and issued citations for a misdemeanor violation of furnishing tobacco to a minor.
"Highland Police would like to thank the local businesses for being diligent in asking for ID and not selling these items to minors," said Detective Donald Patton
