REDLANDS >> Authorities arrested and later released a Redlands man accused of stabbing a person during a fight earlier this week, court documents show.
Elbert Smith, 22, was taken into custody late Monday night at his Redlands home on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to San Bernardino County sheriff’s booking logs.
The incident took place in the area of Alta Street, just north of Pioneer Avenue, said Carl Baker, spokesman for the Redlands Police Department.
Five people were in a car when someone threw a rock at the vehicle, Baker said.

The people in the car got out and confronted the people they believed had thrown the rock and a fight ensued.
“During the fight, one of the people from the car was stabbed,” said Baker in an email.
The people who were in the car ran away and the group thought to have thrown the rock got into the vehicle and fled, officials said.
The stolen vehicle was later recovered in the 1200 block of Post Street.
The wounded man was taken to the hospital with serious, but non life-threatening, injuries.
Detectives identified Smith as one of the suspects, and he was arrested.
