Deputies from the Hesperia Station responded to the call reporting an attempted robbery when a woman reported that a man tried to steal her purse, broke her vehicle window then fled northbound on foot up Third Avenue.
The suspect, later identified as Lawrence Brown, was located by citizens in the area of Third avenue and Pine Street.
Through further investigation, it was learned that Brown asked the victim for money as she was returning to her vehicle. When the woman refused to give him money, the man got into her vehicle and demanded a ride then attempted to take her purse from her.
The two struggled and the woman was eventually able to pull her purse from Brown’s hands. At that time, suspect Brown exited the vehicle, struck her passenger window with his hand causing the window to break.
The victim was not injured as a result of this incident.
Brown was positively identified by the victim and was subsequently arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center on charges of Attempted Robbery.
The Sheriff’s Department would like to thank the public and the victim for relaying good information about the incident, the description of the suspect and his direction of travel. Deputies were more easily able to locate the suspect due to their help.
