The Boys and Girls Club of Barstow held their inagurual Harley Party and Ghost Riders in the Sky Poker Run fundraiser at Revolutions Barstow Bowl on Saturday.
BARSTOW — The Boys and Girls Club of Barstow raffled off a 2015 Harley-Davidson Dyna Street Bob motorcycle during its inaugural Harley Party and Ghost Riders in the Sky Poker Run fundraiser Saturday at Revolutions Barstow Bowl.
Board President Amber Woods said the proceeds from the fundraiser will be used toward the club’s general operating expenses, which include paying utilities and providing snacks and food.
According to Woods, grants, donations and other general funding have become harder to receive over the years and the club has not had a major fundraising event in two years. But Woods said the goal is to have two “big” fundraisers a year. The Boys and Girls Club of Barstow currently has 138 registered members between the ages 5 and 18.
“It is a common misconception that we strictly use volunteers,” she said. “But we have trained, paid staff working at all times. That is our biggest monthly expense. Volunteers are always needed and welcomed."
Woods said the Boys and Girls Club wants to make the fundraiser a annual event.
