REDLANDS >> A 68-year-old Redlands woman was killed in a crash involving a tractor trailer Monday evening.
The unidentified woman was a passenger in a 2006 Mercedes Benz C230 traveling east on the 10 Freeway approaching Mt. View Avenue Monday around 7 p.m., when the car had a flat tire, according to a California Highway Patrol statement.
The driver, 20-year-old Ashlee Euphemia Candelaria of Redlands, was able to make it to the center median but then tried to drive to the right shoulder, officials said. As she tried to enter the slow lane, she drove into the path of a white 2000 Mack CH600 truck and trailer combination which was traveling at approximately 55 miles per hour.
The front of the truck struck the rear of the Mercedes, sending the car off the freeway into a drainage canal.
Candelaria, the injured woman and a third person, Chris Rojas, 38, also of Redlands, were driven to Loma Linda University Medical Center where the unidentified woman later died.
The truck driver was not injured.
The crash is being investigated by the CHP.
