The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, which was handling the investigation, could not immediately confirm that Jones had been found.
A Colorado father of five who was reported missing two months ago during a visit to Southern California has turned up in Mexico, a private investigator hired by the man’s family said on Sunday.
Oliver Pareece Jones was found alive and safe in Mazatlan, according to Paul Huebl. The private investigator told KTLA that Jones has already flown back to Denver where he was reunited with family members.
Huebl did not release any other information or details about the circumstances under which Jones was located, including when he was found. His condition was also not immediately provided.
Prior to being located, the 37-year-old Jones had last been spotted on April 5 when surveillance video captured him making purchases at a Wal-Mart in Rancho Cucamonga.
At the time, relatives had said the divorced father was visiting Southern California with family members and was considering relocating to the area when he suddenly vanished.
Days before he was reported missing, family members told KTLA Jones had been mugged and assaulted outside The Plaza, a nightclub located on La Brea Avenue in the Fairfax District. He ended up hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with a concussion.
The Colorado native checked himself out of the hospital before treatment was completed and was headed back home when he stopped at a Wal-Mart on Foothill Boulevard, according to his family.
While it was unclear how exactly Jones ended up in Mexico, Huebel speculated that he possibly suffered memory loss as a result of sustaining the concussion.
“We know he was assaulted, and he suffered a concussion, which may very well have affected his memory, given him amnesia,” he said.
Authorities have not found any evidence of foul play.
