FAQ
How do I submit my photos? All entries can be dropped off at the main office of the Daily Press, 13891 Park Avenue, Victorville. Please check specific dates for submission week during each year's contest.
What is the Special Category? We will be doing a calendar featuring the top three in each of our four categories this year - the categories are Summer, Fall, Winter & Spring.
Do my photos have to be a certain size? Qualifying images may be no larger than 11 x 14. Applicants may enter images smaller than 11 x 14.
How do I matte my photo? The best approach will be professional matting from a frame shop. Several local art stores also offer matting. You can also do it yourself. If you have a standard photo size (4x6, 5x7, 8x10 or 11x14), you can find pre-cut mats with openings of those standard sizes. For example an 11x14 mat usually will have a pre-cut opening of 8x10.
How do I select which category to enter? Choose the category that best describes your image. The categories are broad, so some images might be acceptable in more than one category, but choose the best category so that your picture will stand out.
How much is too much image manipulation? It is okay to crop and make color corrections. Do not remove information originally in the image or add information that was not originally in the image.
Can I enter more than one image? This year each participant can enter up to five images.
Will all entries be displayed in the show? The Daily Press makes every effort to display as many images as possible in the show. We display 200 images and depending on space available, more images may be displayed.
Why did my image not get presented in the show? The most common reasons photos are excluded from the show are because they defy the guidelines and rules. These reasons include: entering more than 5 pieces, overall size exceeding 11 x 14, matting or mounting was in poor quality.
Can I enter more than one image per category? Entrants may enter their 5 photos in any category they wish.
Who will judge the show? Professional photographers from the High Desert will judge the show.
Can a person from outside the area enter? There is not a specific rule preventing it however, emphasis is placed on local entrants. As display space fills at the show, preference will be given to local participants' work.
Can I enter images taken outside the High Desert? Images taken outside the High Desert are acceptable if they are taken by local photographers.
Can I enter an older image? There is no rule stating time periods for photos to be taken however, emphasis is placed on new and fresh entries. As display space fills at the show, preference will be given to new images. Previously entered images may be removed for space consideration.
When can I pick up my image? Entries can be picked up after November 4th. What is the entrance fee and what happens to it? The entry fee is $2 per entry.
What do I win? Ribbons will be awarded to category winners, plaques will be awarded to the Best in Show winners, one for 18 and over, and one under 18. Photos that best match the months of the year will will be presented in a 2014 calendar, each winner will receive a calendar, and calendars will be for sale during the the Holiday season.
