SAN BERNARDINO: Missing Persons Day event gives closure for mom

“This event would be a huge success even if we could only provide closure for just one family. It would be huge,” said McMahon.googleoff: all

Mayfield got that closure. “Detective Elton found and provided proof that my daughter is OK and living in Los Angeles. They are sending a deputy to knock on her door to see if she wants to communicate after all of this time.,” she said. “It is a big weight off my shoulders -- I can sleep at night now.”googleoff: all

Not every case at the sparsely attended event ended with resolution.googleoff: all

For Newhall resident Allan Godfrey, attending the event continued an all-consuming effort to find his 38-year-old son, Allan Godfrey Jr.googleoff: all

“My son was last seen in Phelan, April 17,” Godfrey said. “He arrived home after finishing a horseshoeing job and was in an altercation at his house at 2:30 p.m.” His son’s girlfriend reported Godfrey Jr.’s disappearance after he was overdue for a Friday night dinner.googleoff: all

The elder Godfrey, who works in the aerospace industry, said he doesn’t get a mental break from wondering about his son.googleoff: all

“While they mean well, my co-workers ask me daily if I have any news,” he said. “I lose sleep constantly and I’m not eating because of worry.”googleoff: all

Godfrey maintained some hope going into Saturday’s event. Yet he is realistic about the possible outcomes.googleoff: all

“I’m thinking that my son is probably dead. But until I see my son or his body, I have to do everything I can,” he said.
