REDLANDS: Firefighters rescue children through second-story window

Redlands firefighters helped six people escape from the second story of an apartment complex as flames engulfed a possible exit on the ground floor about 6:40 p.m. Sunday, June 21.googleoff: all

Firefighters grabbed hold of two children -- a 4-year-old and 7-year-old -- as they were handed down by their parents from a second-story window, according to a news release from the Redlands Fire Department.googleoff: all

The firefighters then helped the children's parents and grandparents exit through the window from their apartment at 106 W. Pennsylvania Ave.googleoff: all

The fire, which started on the patio, had spread to the front entrance of the dwelling by the time the family made their escape.googleoff: all

Firefighters had the blaze knocked down within 12 minutes of arriving. No injuries were reported.googleoff: all

The fire, which is believed to have started from a barbecue, caused about $5,000 worth of damage to the patio, front door and attic of the apartment complex
