RANCHO CUCAMONGA >> The sheriff’s bomb squad blew up a bucket that was deemed suspicious late Thursday night.
The blast sounded like a professional-grade firework. It happened about 10:30 p.m. No car alarms were activated.
Someone saw the bucket on the north side of Foothill Boulevard, west of Etiwanda Avenue, and notified authorities before 7 p.m.
The bucket had a suspicious device attached to it, said sheriff’s Sgt. Anthony Vega.
Patrons at a liquor store near the bucket voluntarily evacuated, as did a restaurant across the street. Other businesses in the area remained open.

Deputies closed Foothill from Sacred Heart Place to Etiwanda Avenue, and Etiwanda Avenue from Garcia Drive to Chestnut Avenue.
Shortly after 10 p.m. a sheriff’s helicopter circled the area and made announcements requesting residents go indoors for a half-hour.
Deputies, a robot, an ambulance and a fire engine remained on scene past 10:45 p.m. and the roads stayed closed.
It was unclear what was inside the bucket.
