Body found in desert ID'd as missing woman

San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner's Office officials on Monday said that the body of a 49-year-old woman found in the desert on June 21 is that of a woman who was reported missing earlier that day.

Carol Edna Smith, 49, of Victorville was reported missing from a "room and board" facility at 10:25 a.m. June 21, Sheriff's officials said. She reportedly told the facility employees that she was going to walk to Wal-Mart, and never came back.

Sheriff's deputies found her body northwest of Ojo Caliente Street hours later.

Authorities have not yet determined a cause of death, but Sheriff's officials said in June that there were no apparent signs of foul play.
