Deputies still searching for man accused of assaulting wife, son with machete

Update: The search continued Friday for a man suspected of attacking his wife and son with a machete on Thursday afternoon in Victorville, San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials said Friday.

The wife and son were treated for minor injuries at the scene of the crime in the 17200 block of Dante Street, near Stoddard Wells Road and west of Interstate 15 around 1 p.m. Thursday.

VICTORVILLE — San Bernardino County sheriff's officials said Thursday afternoon that a woman and her son were assaulted with a machete by the woman's husband after an argument between the husband and wife escalated at a home in the 17200 block of Dante Street, near Stoddard Wells Road and west of Interstate 15.

Deputies descended on the area shortly after 1 p.m. following calls reporting the assault. When deputies arrived, authorities said they determined that the husband and the wife had been fighting and the husband allegedly pulled out a machete and cut his wife. The couple's son reportedly attempted to break up the fight, and was cut in the process.

The California Highway Patrol helicopter was called to assist with the search for the suspect. By 4:25 p.m., the scene had been cleared, but deputies were attempting to locate the suspect.

The two victims were treated by ambulance paramedics and given follow-up instructions, but were not transported to the hospital, authorities said. The victims' injuries are not life-threatening.
