Sheriff John McMahon is pleased to be a proud sponsor of the Athletes for Life program. The summer program provides disadvantaged kids the opportunity to attend mentorship program in an effort to discourage drug use and gang involvement. Additional co-sponsors of the program include County Superintendent Ted Alejandre and the San Bernardino Countywide Gangs and Drugs Task Force.
“A program that brings together athletes, education and mentorship will make a huge difference in the lives of these young adults”, said Sheriff McMahon. The sheriff’s $5,000 sponsorship is funded out of state asset forfeiture funds, which are used for drug education and gang prevention programs.
“Programs such as Athletes for Life offer positive alternatives for our young people and provides them with strong educational and social tools, and mentors that gear them for success, said Superintendent Ted Alejandre. “We are pleased to be a co-sponsor in this effort.”
Athletes for Life has been proud to provide and host our free summer life skills camp for young men and women. This year’s camp is the 10th Annual Summer Life Skills camp and it will be held at the University of Redlands, July 12th through July 15th. The overnight camp is offered to young men and women, ages 12-17 years old. For the men, it is designed to enhance a football player's knowledge of the game and to improve their skill level at each position and for the ladies; the program is designed to empower them with the tools and knowledge necessary for an ever-changing world.
