An 89-year-old Beverly Hills motorist has been killed in Devore when his Mercedes Benz and an SUV collided at an intersection. The California Highway Patrol says the victim’s passenger and the other driver escaped with minor injuries.

A woman has become the fourth person to drown in a swimming pool the past 6-weeks in the Inland Empire. Calfire says the woman was found unresponsive in a pool in La Quinta Tuesday evening. Authorities report several near-drownings this summer.

Advance medical treatment at a hospital failed to save the life of an inmate at the Riverside County jail at Indio. The prisoner was stricken in a holding area. No foul play is suspected. The coroner identified the inmate Tuesday as Joaquin Crespo, 27, of Palm Desert.

There’s a vacancy on the San Bernardino school board. There will be a temporary appointment to replace Board Vice President Bobbie Perong who resigned earlier this month. Applications will be taken until July 31st. Voters will select a 4-year board member in November.

The National Park Service is conducting a boundary study to explore whether it would be appropriate and feasible to add lands in the Eagle Mountain area in Riverside County, to Joshua Tree National Park. The initial comment period for the scoping phase of the study has started, and will extend through August 21.

Near Lake Elsinore, one outbuilding was destroyed Wednesday in a short-lived wildfire. It was contained in a little over an hour after covering 2.5 acres on Mazie Avenue. In Corona, a Wednesday afternoon fire gobbled up 30 acres of vegetation near the Corona Municipal Airport. Several homes were briefly evacuated.

A 41 year old Twin Peaks man was arrested on Tuesday for assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and criminal threats. On Monday, James Stump went to the victim’s home in the community of Twin Peaks, entered and pointed a crossbow at the victim and threatened to kill him. The victim was able to wrestle the crossbow away from Stump and threw it out of his home.

Beaumont Pass Transit announces two enhancements to service in the Pass Area. Beginning August 1st, Commuter Link 120 with service to the Loma Linda VA Hospital and the San Bernardino Metrolink will now operate on Saturdays. The new Beaumont Route 2 offers daily service to Beaumont, Banning, Casino Morongo, and Desert Hills Premium Outlets.

Debate resumes next month on the proposed mega-warehouse project in Moreno Valley known as the World Logistics Center. The City Council opens its public hearing August 17th. (INT)

Sheriff’s detectives in Victorville have no suspects in a man’s murder. The 51-year-old victim was found dead in a commercial complex on 7th Street.

The California Highway Patrol says a pedestrian was walking across State Route 210 at Del Rosa Ave., in San Bernardino, and was struck by a pick-up truck early Monday. The motorist tried to avoid the pedestrian but the man was thrown into the center divider. The pedestrian was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Forest officials re-open campgrounds closed during the 31,359-acre Lake Fire in the popular Barton Flats and Heartbar recreation area. The San Gorgonio Wilderness remains closed to visitor use.
