Missing Barstow nurse found safe within city

A 53-year-old nurse who had been missing since early Saturday after working a night shift at a Barstow hospital was found within the city Tuesday afternoon. Further details were not immediately available.

John Payne clocked in for work at Barstow Community Hospital at 1 p.m. Friday and clocked out Saturday at 1:16 a.m.

He did not show up to his next scheduled shift that afternoon and did not contact the hospital. A hospital spokesman and co-workers said missing work is out of character for Payne. Tana McClean, Payne's co-worker, tried to contact him but was unsuccessful. McClean filed a missing person report on Sunday.
