San Bernardino County officials released booking photos Monday of two men who allegedly fatally shot a 4-year-old boy in Highland last week.
Darron Daniels, 20, of Moreno Valley and Maurice Kelly, 25, of San Bernardino were arrested on July 30 in connection to the murder of Daniel Munoz. Daniel was playing with a stuffed animal in the front yard of his aunt's house in the 7400 block of McKinley Street on July 29 at about 8:28 p.m. when shots were fired. He was struck and taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Daniels and Kelly, who are currently being held in lieu of $1 million bail each, pleaded not guilty to one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder at the San Bernardino Justice Center on Monday. "As a father and grandfather, I can't even begin to imagine the pain [Daniel's family] must be feeling right now. This is still an active investigation, but one thing is certain. Whether this is gang-related or not, an innocent child was shot and killed and taken away from us. We will not allow our children to be gunned down. The cowards who committed this senseless crime will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law and justice will be served for Daniel and his family," San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos said in a statement. Detectives believe two other men were the intended targets of the shooting, but Daniel was the only person hit. Investigators are looking for a person of interest, described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s, about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighing between 160 and 180 pounds. They are also looking for a four-door, 1990s white Toyota Camry with black front and rear bumpers.
