Ontario apartment manager arrested in child sex abuse case

ONTARIO >> An Ontario apartment manager is accused of sexually abusing several children who live in the building he manages and investigators believe there may be more victims out there, Ontario Police officials said.

David Esquer, 42, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of sexual abuse of a child and possession of child pornography, said Sgt. Jeff Higbee, spokesman for the Ontario Police Department. On Monday, Esquer was charged with two counts of lewd acts with a child, two counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of kidnapping, court records show.

Police were investigating the sexual assault of two girls, both 10, who live in the complex located at 521 N. Grove Avenue in Ontario, according to a police statement. The girls accused Esquer of the sexual assault.

“He always seemed too friendly with my girls,” one woman living in the complex, who asked not to be identified in order to protect her children said. “I just spoke to them and they say he never touched them. You never know what demons someone has hidden deep down.”

During the investigation, detectives reportedly found child pornography on Esquer’s computer and identified five additional victims, he said. Several of the victims live in the same apartment complex, according to police, although he has lived in Pomona and Moreno Valley.

The victims — a total five girls and two boys — range in age from 6 to 12 years, according to Higbee, and investigators believe the crimes span over the last 10 years.

Esquer was booked into West Valley Detention Center and is being held on $750,000 bail.
