San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department deputies respond to the scene of a head-on crash on Highway 395 in Hesperia on Friday.
HESPERIA — A head-on collision on Highway 395 left two people injured and shut down the highway for almost two hours on Friday, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department officials.
Authorities received reports of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 395 between Phelan and Joshua Roads at 5:26 p.m. A Ford Mustang heading northbound collided head-on with a Toyota Sienna in the southbound lane, according to Karen Hunt, spokeswoman for County Sheriff's Department's Hesperia Station.
"It seems like the driver of the Mustang lost control and veered into incoming traffic, hitting the Sienna head-on," says Hunt. "The Mustang then continued on before finally ending up in a ditch off the side of the road."
Medical helicopters were requested after officials determined that the driver of the Mustang, a 56-year-old man from Victorville, and his passenger were injured.
According to Hunt, the driver of the Mustang appeared to have "scrapes and cuts consistent with a head-on collision," and possibly a broken leg. The severity of the passenger's injuries is unknown. Both the driver and the passenger were flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.
The driver of the Sienna, a 24-year-old man from Victorville, was not injured. No other injuries have been reported.
Highway 395 was closed down for almost two hours while officials investigated the incident. The highway re-opened at 7:09 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs.
Officials are still investigating the incident, but "speed or alcohol do not appear to be factors" in the crash, Hunt said.
