BIG BEAR – The firefight near the Snow Summit ski resort is winding down. It’s become a tree-to-tree offensive as more than 200 firefighters mop up the remains of a 55 acre brush and timber fire. Residents have reoccupied the nearly 500 homes that came under an evacuation order. Schools that were shuttered Monday and Tuesday were back in session Wednesday. Actitives at the Snow Summit resort also resumed. Forest roads 2N06 (Radford), 1N54 (Clarks Grade), 2N08 (Knickerbocker), and 2N10 (Skyline) are closed. Trails closed include: Towne, Skyline, Champion Lodgepole Pine, Bluff Mesa, Grandview Point and Seven Oaks. Group Campgrounds closed include: Deer, Boulder, and Bluff Mesa. Investigators have narrowed the fire’s point of origin, but aren’t saying what started it.
