BARSTOW — The Barstow Police Department is asking the public to help officers find the suspect in a Saturday night shooting.
Police said they are seeking David Sanchez, 25, who remains on the loose. Police say Sanchez fired two shotgun rounds at a 27-year-old Barstow man who was seated in a car in the 1200 block of Carson Street on Saturday night.
Detectives assumed the investigation and identified Sanchez as the shooter. Police said Sanchez is a known member of a local criminal street gang and goes under the alias “Tank." Sanchez is described as Hispanic, and stands 5-foot-9 and weighs 140 pounds. He has brown hair and eyes and multiple tattoos on his face.
Officers responded to a report of gunshots at approximately 6:35 p.m. Saturday. Police said the victim's vehicle was parked in front of Sanchez’s home and the victim was struck in the head by pellets. The victim suffered a minor injury that did not require medical treatment, police said.
The victim fled from the vehicle on foot, leaving it in gear and causing it to travel a “short distance,” coming to a stop after crashing into a parked car and a street light pole in the corner of Roberta Avenue and Carson Street, police said.
Police say Sanchez was seen fleeing the area with the shotgun in his mother’s vehicle. Police said family members later found the vehicle, but Sanchez was not located.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on the shooting or Sanchez’s whereabouts is urged to call the Barstow Police Department at 760-256-2211 or Det. Keith Libby at 760-255-5134
