SOUTHLAND – With millions of Californians on the move this Labor Day holiday, the California Highway Patrol will maintain its maximum enforcement period through Monday. All available CHP officers will be on duty. Forty-nine people died during the same holiday last year. Many were not wearing seat belts. Thirty-eight percent of all crash fatalities involved a driver with a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher. CHP officers made more than 1,100 arrests for driving under the influence. Seven people lost their lives in the Inland Empire during the Labor Day holiday last year. Nine perished during the same holiday in 2013.
