SOUTHLAND – Metrolink says it will add a second locomotive to each of its trains both as a safety and a performance measure. The announcement comes as an outgrowth to the February crash and derailment in Oxnard in which a Metrolink engineer riding in the train’s leading cab car was killed. BNSF locomotives will be positioned ahead of all cab cars. Metrolink will continue the use of a second locomotive on each of its trains. "We are taking this additional step as a redundancy to keep our riders safe, while a second locomotive will address some of our recent mechanical delays," Metrolink Chief Executive Officer Art Leahy said.
