Mosquito ‘fogging’ is being stepped up to combat a late summer scourge of disease-bearing mosquitoes.
The early morning spraying will target neighborhoods in Moreno Valley and Nuevo and will continue through Tuesday. Signs are being posted stating the dates and times of the roving treatments. It’s aimed at a seasonal outbreak of West Nile virus which is carried by infected mosquitoes. Last week, Riverside County announced its first human fatality in 6-years attributed to the virus. Parts of Corona, Norco and the Canyon Crest area of Riverside have already been sprayed. Vector control officials did not identify the chemicals used in the fogging process. The ultra low volume mist is applied from machines mounted on the back of marked vehicles.
