Deputies from the Central Station responded to the area of Lynwood Dr. and Del Rosa Ave. in San Bernardino to a call of a subject carrying a handgun. While responding to the location, deputies were updated with information describing the subject as a Hispanic male, in his 20’s wearing black shorts and no shirt. Deputies continued receiving updates indicating the subject was walking in the area, displaying the handgun and approaching others in an aggressive manner.
Upon initial arrival, deputies did not immediately locate the subject but began conducting area checks for him in the surrounding neighborhoods. While checking the area near Lynwood and Sanchez St., a deputy located a subject walking who matched the suspect description. As the deputy attempted to make contact with the person, he immediately ran from deputies. After a short foot pursuit, the subject was later identified as Victor Ojeda, 22, of San Beranrdino. When the deputy tried to take Ojeda into custody he began fighting. The deputy deployed his Taser in an attempt to subdue Ojeda; however the Taser was ineffective. The violent struggle continued until the deputy was able to overcome Ojeda’s resistance and take him into custody.
After arresting Ojeda, deputies found a .22 caliber revolver on the ground where Ojeda fought deputies. The handgun was found to be fully loaded and the identifying serial numbers had been removed. Deputies also noted the handgun appeared to have been altered with the barrel being cut in order to shorten it and make it more concealable. Ojeda was transported and booked at Central Detention Center for violation of PC29800(A)(1)- Felon in Possession of a firearm and PC23900- Felony Possession of a Modified Firearm.
During the investigation it was determined that Ojeda was currently out on Felony Parole for Vehicle Theft, and he is an active West Side Verdugo Gang Member.
