HIGHLAND >> A San Bernardino woman has been charged with embezzling nearly $30,000 from a woman’s club associated with a Highland church, officials said.

Donna Rantz, 44, was arrested Wednesday a day after a judge ordered an arrest warrant issued for Rantz on embezzlement charges, San Bernardino County court and sheriff’s booking records show. She managed to pay her $100,000 bail and is currently out of jail.

On March 20, deputies with the sheriff’s Highland station were contacted about the possible theft involving Rantz who was the former accountant and treasurer for the Highland Woman’s Club associated with the Highland Congregational Church, according to Sgt. Ryan Collins in a written statement.

Through an investigation, detectives learned Rantz had reportedly stolen about $28,400 of the club’s money over five years, officials said.

Rantz had been reportedly using the club’s money to pay her personal bills. She would also write out checks to herself, according to sheriff’s officials.

The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Highland station at 909-425-9793.
