REDLANDS >> The San Bernardino County Museum and Google Institute’s partnership is growing.
The Redlands-based education facility announced earlier this week the launch of online tours of the site through Google technology similar to its “Street View” programming.
Google users can tour the main floor of the museum with the option of zooming into exhibit details in the Hall of Geological Wonders, the museum’s foyer, and the Fisk Gallery, according to a news release.
“Our partnership is important not only because of the tremendous reach it gives us world-wide, but philosophically the way the museum is working with other major institutions to promote cultural awareness which is part of our mission,” said Jennifer Reynolds, the museum’s media specialist.

The County Museum is one of hundreds of museums, cultural institutions and archives from 40 countries Google has partnered with. San Bernardino County officials announced the partnership in 2014, launching high-resolution images of museum artifacts in February.
“Google and its robot camera visited during our special exhibit on Navajo rugs. This exhibit is no longer on display, but it lives on in cyberspace. It is an excellent example of the Cultural Institute’s effort to digitally preserve important cultural material,” said Leonard Hernandez, the museum’s interim director.
