HIGHLAND >> A San Bernardino couple is behind bars after they accidentally drove through a sheriff’s K-9 demonstration in a reportedly stolen vehicle.
Robert Fuentes, 26, and Maria Romo, 19, both of San Bernardino, were arrested Saturday afternoon on suspicion of possession of stolen property.
Fuentes was reportedly out on bail stemming from another vehicle theft arrest from about a month ago, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials said in a statement. He was also booked on several felony charges including committing a felony while out on bail.

Around 1 p.m. Saturday, deputies from the Highland station spotted a stolen vehicle driving in the area of 5th Street and Church Avenue, according to a sheriff’s release.
A deputy called for back up and continued to follow the vehicle.
The driver, later identified as Fuentes, drove to the area of 5th Street and Palm Avenue where a law enforcement K-9 demonstration was underway. Five deputies and their K-9 partners joined the first deputy trailing the stolen car.
Deputies pulled the car over and arrested the couple, officials said.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies located numerous cell phones, identification cards, credit cards and other items believed to be stolen property. Investigation into these items is ongoing.
Fuentes is being held on $100,000 bail. Romo’s bail is set at $50,000.
