ONTARIO: Intruder sexually attacks hotel guest, police say

An intruder lurking inside a hotel room near an airport bound and sexually attacked a woman who'd just rented the room, say Ontario police who arrested a 31-year-old Pomona man.

The crimes were reported at 5:45 p.m. Monday at the Doubletree Hotel, 222 North Vineyard Ave., just north of Ontario International Airport.

"The 63-year-old woman told officers that she had just checked into her room when she was attacked by a man waiting inside," Sgt. Jeff Higbee said in a written statement. "After tying up and sexually assaulting the woman, the suspect robbed her ... and fled."googleoff: allgoogleon: all

Police say they solved the case less than eight hours later when they caught a suspect about a mile away.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

Clifford James Brown was arrested at 1:19 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, along the 1200 block of East Holt Boulevard in Ontario and booked for investigation of burglary, false imprisonment, robbery and sexual assault, online booking records show.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

Hotel security personnel helped identify Brown as a suspect.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

But police say they couldn't immediately determine how the intruder gained access to the room, which was supposed to be vacant when the woman arrived.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

"Brown was not a hotel guest, nor was he an employee of the hotel," according to the police statement. "Brown has an extensive interstate criminal history, including weapons and assault charges."googleoff: allgoogleon: all
