Accused Banning shooter facing delayed arraignment

BANNING Prosecutors have filed a 10-count complaint against occasional firefighter James Diaz in the aftermath of his hour-long rampage through city streets last weekend. Two men were killed and at least three persons injured in the still unexplained series of shootings and attacks. Killed in the random shootings were Paul Lesh, 66, and Benjamin Johnson, 34, both of Banning. Diaz, whose 34th birthday occurred the day before the carnage, was captured in neighboring Beaumont. Witnesses say he’d been asking if anyone had seen his children. Diaz was scheduled to be arraigned October 30th at the Banning Justice Center.
