CORONA: Botched robbery dumps money in street

The robbers retrieved some of it before they escaped. Passersby also helped themselves.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

The commotion erupted at 2:58 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Jays Market, 1267 W. Sixth Street, in Corona.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

"The manager of the business had gone to the bank and was returning ... when he was approached by two (men) in their 30s," said Lt. Alan Lorton. "There was a struggle for the money.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

"And in the struggle, some of the money came out of the bag ... and ended up being dropped on the ground."googleoff: allgoogleon: all

The robbers grabbed some of the cash and fled in a Ford Explorer with no license plates.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

Both robbers are in their 30s and were wearing black shorts. One had a white shirt. His accomplice had a red shirt. Neither displayed a weapon.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

Also quick to disappear were some of the witnesses. And with good reason.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

"People were helping themselves," Lorton said, "to somebody else's money."
