RIALTO: Police fatally shoot domestic violence suspect (UPDATE)

The 26-year-old probationer and alleged gang member died at a hospital soon after the 3:19 p.m. incident Friday, Oct. 2, along the 200 block of South Linden Avenue, about 2 miles west of downtown Rialto.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

Police went to the sprawling complex after the suspect's girlfriend made a 9-1-1 call reporting domestic violence, said Capt. Randy De Anda.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

The suspect began struggling, prompting the officers to use a Taser on him, with no effect, De Anda said.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

"The suspect reached for a knife, at which time the officers used deadly force," De Anda added.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

At least one shot hit the suspect in the chest. The dead man's name was withheld, pending notification of relatives.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

He has a prior conviction in Los Angeles for assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, De Anda said. And the suspect was on probation for the same offense.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

He also was named in an arrest warrant that charged him with violating the terms of his probation, De Anda said.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

Both officers involved in the incident escaped injury.
