When San Bernardino County sheriff's Sgt. Anthony Vega arrived at an intersection in Rancho Cucamonga to find a woman in labor in the back seat of her car, he realized that the baby wasn't going to wait for a ride to the hospital.googleoff: allgoogleon: all
So Vega, who had responded to a report of a woman giving birth, joined with the baby's father, John Hernandez, to deliver a healthy girl at 2:33 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Arrow Route and Archibald Avenue.googleoff: allgoogleon: all
Hernandez took off his shirt so Vega could wrap the baby in it, sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller said Monday.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

Sheriff's Cpl. Albert Ixco, a watch commander at the Rancho Cucamonga station, said deputies receive training in all manner of medical assistance, including delivering babies.googleoff: allgoogleon: all
Still, Ixco said, it's unusual that a deputy actually has to deliver a baby.googleoff: allgoogleon: all
"We do see him as a hero for what he did," Ixco said. "He's very professional and very diligent."
