Woman’s Club hears about Santa Claus, Inc.

Santa Claus, Inc. has some 900 volunteers, some from the Highland Woman’s Club, but can always use a few more.

So says Marcia Benjamin of Santa Claus, Inc., addressing the Highland Woman’s Club on Friday, Oct. 9.

Gifts to children include backpacks, holiday bags, food, and toys.

Benjamin says the agency is now adding foster children at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital as a new challenge.

Also new on Nov. 21 will be Military Day for regional military bases like Twentynine Palms and Fort Irwin.

There also will be special gifts for students in the 92410 zip code. Those with perfect attendance will be eligible to be entered into a drawing for bicycles.

Benjamin said the agency gets major donations from Toys R Us and Mattel, among others, “but all donations are appreciated.”

Santa Claus, Inc. will host its annual Christmas Tree Lane on Dec. 5, and an Open House on Dec. 7.

Gift distribution begins on Dec. 8 and runs for one week.

Some bylaws changes were also announced, partly to tighten up auditing of the treasurer as a result of the alleged embezzlement of almost $30,000 by former treasurer Donna Krantz. She is due for arraignment in November on the charges.

The Highland Woman’s Club, the oldest community organization in Highland, meets the second Friday of each month for lunch at Highland Congregational Church, Atlantic Street and Palm Avenue in San Bernardino.
