Detectives in Ontario are conducting a death investigation after the discovery of a man’s decomposing body in a motel room.
The man’s body was found just before 9:10 Sunday morning, authorities said.
Officers were dispatched to the Mission Motel located in the 1500 block of W. Mission Boulevard in reference to a safety check. The caller said a foul odor was coming from the room.
Police said the door was answered by a man named Alfred Guerrero who, according to motel records, had been staying in the location for more than two years.
When officers questioned him about the odor in the room, and what they described as many flies, they were reportedly told they would need to look for themselves and he would provide no further information. Officers did a safety check of the room and also notified detectives to get a search warrant for the location.
Detectives said they found a body that appears to have been in a state of decomposition for several days.
The body has been identified but officials said they were withholding the name until notification of next of kin.
Guerrero is being called a person of interest in the case. He was questioned and released, police said.
The investigation is on-going.
Detectives asked anyone with information about the case to contact Detective Gary Naranjo at (909) 395-2764.
