INLAND EMPIRE The 3-day weekend has become among the deadliest of the year on the streets and highways across the inland region. Nine people lost their lives during the 72 hour period, mostly in Riverside County. Eight perished during the same weekend last year and again in 2011. Among the victims were a bicyclist, a motorcyclist, a San Diego couple, two pedestrians and an off-duty Colton firefighter. Hit-run and DUI drivers played roles in at least four of the weekend mishaps. Added to the carnage were three homicides, two fatal, officer-involved shootings and a boating accident that killed two people. Those killed in the law enforcement actions were identified Tuesday as William Combs, 38, of Hemet and Margaret Wagner, 62, of Aguanga.
