INLAND EMPIRE The driver of a stolen vehicle has become the fourth person killed by local law enforcement in less than a week. Indio police were attempting to apprehend the suspect in a parking lot Wednesday when the driver suddenly backed his vehicle into a patrol car. The officer was not hurt but shot and fatally wounded the suspect who was identified late Thursday as Samuel Villarreal, 18, of Thousand Palms. Since October 9th, law enforcement officers have shot and killed a 62-year-old domestic abuse suspect in Aguanga, an intruder at a water storage tank at Phelan and a gunman on a bicycle in San Bernardino. Police say they were protecting themselves and others from individuals armed with guns or vehicles.
