RANCHO CUCAMONGA The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department says the use of force was necessary to subdue one of three suspects involved in a residential robbery. According to a statement, sheriff’s office said that Donovan Gardner, 25, got into a struggle with two arresting deputies and was struck several times while on the ground. The robbery suspects had been chased down the 210 freeway from Rancho Cucamonga to Pasadena where a PIT maneuver sidelined their get-away sedan. Gardner and his accomplice, James Smith, 24, both parolees, were identified as active gang members. A third suspect in the robbery, Simone King, 22, of Northridge was arrested without incident.
