SAN BERNARDINO A person narrowly escaped being shot late Tuesday night during the robbery of a Subway restaurant.
Officers were called out to 525 W. Highland Ave. just before 10 p.m. for a robbery and shots fired call, said Lt. Richard Lawhead, spokesman for the San Bernardino Police Department.
Investigators learned that while one armed man entered the restaurant and demanded money, another man stayed outside as lookout. Also outside the door was a bystander who was holding a bat, said Lawhead.

The lookout confronted the bystander and when the armed man inside exited the business, he reportedly fired twice at the witness, missing the person but shattering the front door of the business.
Both men ran and have not been located, Lawhead said.
The sandwich shop was open Wednesday morning.
