APPLE VALLEY — Deputies arrested Francis Pusok on suspicion of assault with injuries Wednesday, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department officials said.
The 31-year-old Apple Valley man, who is facing charges after an April 9 chase and televised beating, was arrested Wednesday after allegedly punching a man who had evicted squatters identified as Pusok's family members, officials said in a news release.
A report of an assault with injuries in the 11000 block of Caribou Avenue was first received at 1:17 p.m. Tuesday, officials said. The man was in the process of changing the locks at the residence when Pusok arrived to retrieve property left behind, they said.
Pusok was informed by the man that he was not allowed to be there, at which point he punched the man in the nose without provocation, officials said.
The punch caused the man to bleed from his nose and he sustained a fall from the assault, officials said. The man reported injuries to his back and neck from the fall and was treated at a local hospital.
The man later identified Francis Pusok in a photographic lineup, officials said, and a warrant was issued for his arrest Wednesday. Pusok was arrested at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at a residence in the 21100 block of Del Oro Road.
Pusok is being held at the High Desert Detention Center in lieu of $50,000 bail, officials said, and is scheduled to appear in a Victorville courtroom at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
The April 9 incident made national headlines after a TV news helicopter captured footage of deputies beating Pusok after a three-hour chase. He allegedly stole a horse before evading San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies for hours.
Three of the deputies involved are facing criminal charges and Pusok was awarded a $650,000 civil settlement by the county, although about $30,000 was withheld for back child support payments.
The District Attorney also filed charges against Pusok for crimes he allegedly committed during the chase. He had postponed bail and was awaiting trial on those charges before Tuesday's incident, officials said.
