The blaze was reported at 12:16 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, in the 2500 block of North Quince Ave., about three-quarters of a mile northwest of I-210 and Ayala Drive.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

"They had at least a few dozen ... growing plants," said Battalion Chief Art Poduska. "The majority of it was in the garage and a side room. There was more in the house ... upstairs."googleoff: allgoogleon: all

No one was in the two-story house when fire crews arrived.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

No one was hurt. And the cause of the fire hasn't been determined, though the preliminary investigation suggests that the marijuana farming may have played a role.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

"It started near the electrical power where they were ... stealing power from Edison," Poduska said of a patch-work effort to circumvent the electricity meter while drawing power for the grow lights and air conditioners.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

Damage was estimated at more than $25,000.
