A 46-year-old man who allegedly made racially motivated threats to kill his black neighbor was arrested Tuesday morning after breaking the windows of the neighbor’s car in the San Bernardino area, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Sean Roseman, who is Caucasian, was taken into custody without incident after deputies responded about 5:40 a.m. to the 6100 block of Newcomb Street, in an unincorporated area surrounded by the city of San Bernardino.
Deputies were called to the scene for a disturbance.
When they arrived, they were told that Roseman had used a metal bar to break the windows of a vehicle owned by the victim, who was waiting several houses away for authorities to appear.
The victim had received “racially explicit” text messages from Roseman, who ultimately threatened to “kill the victim due to his race,” the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
When the victim returned home, Roseman was waiting for him, made verbal threats, and then began to damage the victim’s vehicle, the release stated.
No one was injured.
Roseman was arrested on suspicion of terrorist threats with a special allegation of felony hate crime, and assault with a deadly weapon.
Roseman was held at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino on $50,000 bail after his arrested early Tuesday morning, county inmate records indicated.
