WEATHER: Showers, snow expected into Tuesday morning; Bear Mountain ski resort to open

A 70 percent chance of rain is expected overnight in the Inland valleys, diminishing to 50 percent Tuesday morning.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

In the San Bernardino Mountains, a 40 percent chance of snow is expected overnight and a 30 percent chance is forecast Tuesday morning.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

The 30 percent prospect of snow today is good news for Bear Mountain in Big Bear Lake, which on Monday announced it will open its ski season Friday.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

Lifts will open at 9 a.m. Chair 9 will open with full park features, and Chair 7 will open for beginner-level skiing. Ticket windows and rental shops will open at 8:30 a.m.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

Bear Mountain, at 43101 Goldmine Drive off the 18, will open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until Dec. 11, after which the resort will operate daily for the remainder of the 2015-16 winter season.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

Though Monday temperatures in the Inland valleys hit a high in the low 60s – much cooler than weekend temperatures that reached into the low 70s – the region is expected to hit a high of 80 Thursday, and continue to climb into the weekend.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

Mountain temperatures, which hit a high in the 40s on Monday, also expected to climb into the 50s by Friday.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

Strong winds in the mountains and deserts are also on the forecast for Monday and Tuesday. A wind advisory will go into effect at 4 p.m. Monday for the San Gorgonio Pass, the mountains in Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties, and the Apple and Lucerne valleys in the High Desert.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

Gusts of up to 45 mph are possible, the advisory says, with the strongest winds expected Monday night through Tuesday morning.googleoff: allgoogleon: all

From Wednesday through the weekend, the Weather Service forecast is for dry, sunny days. Highs will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s on Wednesday, then rise to the upper 70s or low 80s through the weekend.
