Three detained after two injured in shooting Man, woman airlifted for treatment

APPLE VALLEY — A man and woman were shot Sunday afternoon at an apartment complex here and injured seriously enough to be airlifted for treatment, authorities said.

Three individuals had been detained, but no arrests had been made as of 1:45 p.m., according to San Bernardino County Sheriff's Sgt. Laura Marks.

Deputies responded to two 911 calls around 12:01 p.m. Sunday at an apartment complex in the 17900 block of Quantico Road.

Two victims, described as a black adult male and black adult female, were airlifted for treatment. Marks said the extent of their injuries were unknown, but confirmed the injuries were at least moderate. The woman sustained two wounds, she said.

The victims were residents of the apartment complex. Meanwhile, at least one of the three individuals detained was "associated" with the complex, she said.

Deputies recovered a shell casing at the scene and had blocked off the area for investigation.

The shooting appeared to have happened in the courtyard of the complex, according to Marks, who added that authorities were hopeful to have a suspect identified and the suspect weapon recovered by late afternoon Sunday. However, sheriff's officials did not provide additional information Sunday about whether any suspects were arrested.

Additionally, the motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, she said.
