A lawsuit filed against the Town of Apple Valley pertaining to one resident’s public records request was continued Tuesday in a San Bernardino court to allow more time for evidence seeking, court records show.
A status conference is now set for Jan. 19 in Apple Valley resident Leane Lee’s case, in which she alleges the town failed to produce proper documents pursuant to a public records request she made in April.
Lee accuses town officials of violating the U.S. and state constitutions, California's Public Records Act, Proposition 218 and of engaging in a shell game with residents to keep them from seeing how taxpayer money is being spent, specifically on the proposed acquisition of the Apple Valley Ranchos water system.
The town declined to comment, but Town Attorney John Brown of Best Best & Krieger told the Daily Press in May that the town intended to “vigorously defend” itself against Lee’s lawsuit. Lee said local governmental transparency is at stake.
