TWENTYNINE PALMS >> A 25-year-old man was arrested after his 5-month-old son suffered a traumatic brain injury, sheriff’s officials said.
Armando Espinosa, of Twentynine Palms, was arrested Thursday for felony child abuse resulting in a coma. The infant remains hospitalized at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital, according to a San Bernardino County sheriff’s news release.
Deputies responded to the 5800 block of Octotillo Avenue in Twentynine Palms to assist with a medical-aid call involving a 5-month old baby who was not breathing.

Upon arrival, officers saw adults doing CPR on the infant and fire personnel arrived shortly thereafter, according to the release.
The baby was taken to Hi Desert Medical Center for treatment and was found to have a traumatic brain injury, officials said. He was later airlifted to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital where he remains under treatment.
Espinosa was booked into the Central Detention Center in lieu of $500,000 bail.
