CHP determined to limit holiday fatalities

INLAND EMPIRE – SB- The California Highway Patrol will maintain its maximum enforcement period through midnight Sunday.

The CHP is determined to reverse the statewide death toll which hit 45 during the Thanksgiving holiday last year. In the Inland Empire, eight people died last year. The 10-year average is seven fatalities for Riverside and San Bernardino counties combined. During the 4-day Thanksgiving holiday last year, the CHP arrested almost 1,000 people for driving under the influence. The CHP is participating in the third annual “Interstate 40 Challenge.” The goal of the traffic safety campaign is zero fatalities during the holiday travel period on the more than 2,500-mile stretch of I-40. California’s segment of I-40 runs across the San Bernardino County desert from Barstow to Needles.
