HIGHLAND >> Investigators are searching for the person they believe set a series of fires in Highland andSan Bernardino, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials said.
Most of the fires burned vegetation in the area, specifically palm trees which are highly flammable, according to a statement from the Highland sheriff’s station.
During the past few weeks, several fires have been started in the neighborhoods bordered by the Warm Creek Flood Channel and Baseline, East of Del Rosa Avenue, west of Sterling Avenue, South of 13th and Jane streets, and North of Paloma Road, officials said.

Investigators believe a single serial arsonist may be responsible for setting the fires.
The fires have threatened several homes and buildings including the old East Valley Water District buildings. In each incident, firefighters responded quickly and extinguished the blazes before they spread.
