SAN BERNARDINO - More and more pedestrians seem oblivious to their surroundings as hand-held smart phones gain in popularity. And, that’s posing a safety risk. Omnitrans is getting the attention of pedestrians with audible turn signals on fifteen of its buses. Each time the bus turns a corner, a loudspeaker automatically blurts out a safety warning in English and Spanish. Omnitrans will evaluate the effectiveness of the new safety feature before extending the retrofit to the rest of its 177 buses.
