Apple Valley couple Joe Reyes, 26, and Kimberly Aquino, 22, suspected of child endangerment when 8-

APPLE VALLEY >> A mother and father were arrested Friday after their 8-week-old daughter was diagnosed with a complex skull fracture, officials said.

Apple Valley residents Joe Reyes, 26, and Kimberly Aquino, 22, were booked on suspicion of child endangerment, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s news release.

On Monday, Aquino took their daughter to Desert Valley Hospital for injuries to her head. Doctors believe she sustained a complex skull fracture as a result of blunt force to her head, sheriff’s officials said.

The baby was transferred to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital for further treatment. Doctors determined she was severely malnourished and underweight for her age, officials said.

Social workers from Children and Family Services placed her into protective custody.

Officials said the parents’ account of how the baby received her injuries was not consistent with the injuries sustained.

On Friday, at about 9:30 a.m., Reyes and Aquino were arrested and booked into High Desert Detention Center in lieu of $100,000 bail. They are scheduled to appear in Victorville Superior Court on Wednesday.
